Through the creation of a Gansey Knitting Network for Scotland, the project will share the unique design heritage of Scotland’s fishing communities with local, national and international audiences.
It will connect museums, expert knitters, designers and historians from across the country to form a collaborative network with the following objectives:
Objectives
To raise the public’s awareness of this fascinating branch of vernacular knitwear
To gather as much information from as many sources as we can, in addition to the collections held at the Scottish Fisheries Museum
To share knowledge gathered with the public via a website and engaging programme
of events
With this project, we hope to establish an open hub for data collection with a long-term role in consolidating our collective understanding of ganseys across Scotland and other coastal nations.
